Sind die Tony Awards wichtig oder eher unwichtig für die deutschsprachige Theaterlandschaften? Werden die Erfolgsstücke demnächst geklont und bald schon auf deutschen Bühnen gezeigt? Bringen die erfolgreichen Revivals die Dramaturgen auf die Idee, sich die verfügbaren Stücke genauer anzusehen und Neuinszenierungen anzusetzen?
Jedenfalls sind die Nominierungen, die heute am 3. Mai 2016 um 14.30 Uhr mitteleuropäischer Zeit verkündet wurden, eigentlich interessanter, als die Gewinner der Verleihung der 70. Tony Awards (American Theatre Wing’s 70th Annual Antoinette Perry „Tony“ Awards), die am 12. Juni 2016 im Beacon Theatre in New York City ihr Glück ganz spontan vor laufenden Fernsehkameras nicht fassen können.
Tonys gibt es für Schauspiele und Musicals, wenn sie bis zum 28. April 2016 am Broadway ihre offizielle Premiere hatten.
Erwartet wurden viele Nominierungen für „Hamilton: An American Musical“. Doch mit 16 an der Zahl führt es die Liste weit oben an und stellt die Rekorde von „The Producers“ und „Billy Elliott“, die jeweils 15 Nominierungen damals hatten, ein!
Hamilton’s „Erfinder“, Lin-Manuel Miranda, ist persönlich vier Mal nominiert: für Bestes Musical, Bester Musicaldarsteller, Bestes Buch und Beste Komposition.
